The sixteen days from Bhadrapada Purnima to Ashwin Krishnapaksha Amavasya are called Pitrupaksha. During this time, the date on which an ancestor or a member of a family dies, on the same date, they are worshiped in Pitrupaksha. During these 16 days, individuals who imagine in Hinduism bear in mind their ancestors and donate of their title and supply them shraddha. In Shraddha related scriptures Padma Purana, Linga Purana, Matsya Purana and Agni Purana states that whenever a person dies on the third date (Shukla Paksha Krishna Paksha), their Shraddh is done on this day.

Importance of Pitru Paksha

It is described in the mythological texts that before Devpuja, the native should worship his ancestors. Gods are also pleased when ancestors are pleased. This is the explanation that whereas dwelling in Indian tradition the elders of the home are respected and shraddha karma is performed after loss of life. It is also believed that if the ancestors are not sacrificed according to law, they do not get liberation and their soul wanders in the dead. There is also an astrological reason to celebrate Pitru Paksha. Pitra dosha is considered very important in astrology. When the native reaches near success, he is deprived of success, problems are being born in children, loss of wealth, then astrologer tells the strong possibilities of suffering from Pitradosh. That is why the peace of fathers is considered to be necessary for freedom from Pitrodosh.

Which day to worship the ancestors

Well, on the new moon day of every month, for the peace of the ancestors, Pind Daan or Shraddha Karma can be performed, but the importance of Shraddha in Pitru Paksha is considered to be more important. For which day the ancestors should perform Shraddha in Pitru Paksha, for this the scriptural idea is that the ancestor, ancestor, or the deceased member of the family remembers the date of the other world, then they should be worshiped on the same date falling in the ancestral side. If the date of death is not known, then Ashwin Amavasya can be worshiped. It is also called Sarvapriti Amavasya. Before the time i.e. the families who have died prematurely due to an accident or suicide etc., their Shraddha is done on Chaturdashi Tithi. Ashtami for the father is considered suitable for the mother to perform Shraddha on Navami.

Pitru Paksha Vrat Katha: Story of Pitru Paksha

When Karna reached heaven after Virgati was attained in the war of Mahabharata, he was served gold in food. On this, Karna questioned, Indra Dev told him that he donated gold in life, but never donated food. Then Karna told Indra that he did not know about his ancestors, so he could never donate anything. This knowledgeable Indra gave Karna a chance to rectify his mistake and was sent back to Earth for 16 days, where he remembered his ancestors and donated food to him by paying obeisance to him. These 16 days period is called Pitru Paksha.

'Agiyari' was given in the name of fathers there. The fathers licked his ashes and went to the banks of the river hungry. After a while, all the ancestors gathered and began to extend their own Shradhas. Joga-Bhoga's fathers also narrated their experiences. Then they started thinking - if Bhoga would have been able, then he might not have to go hungry, but in Bhoga's house, he did not even have food to eat . Thinking all this, he was pity on the bhog and left with blessings.

It was evening Bhoga's children said to their mother - I'm hungry. Then, with the help of avoiding them, the wife of the victim said - Put the stove in the courtyard, open it and go and eat whatever you find. When the children arrive there, they see that the Hadi is full of pieces. They ran to the mother and told her all the things. When Bhoga's wife saw all this in the courtyard, she too was surprised. In this way, the bhogs also became rich.
