On the full moon pilgrimage of the month of Ashadha, Lord Vishnu and a Guru are worshipped. Ashadha Purnima is one of the important Purnima. According to the lunisolar calendar or Poornimanta Panchang, each month is named on the full moon date on the basis of the constellation in which the moon is located.

It is believed that in the month of Ashadha, on the full moon day, the Moon is situated in Purvashadha or Uttarashada Nakshatra. If on the full moon date of Ashadha month, the Moon is in Uttarashada Nakshatra, then the full moon is considered very auspicious and lucky to attain prosperity and abundance.

Also, on Ashadha Purnima, people observe Gopadam Vrat and offer special worship to Lord Vishnu. It is said that Gopad Vrat is very fruitful and bestows all kinds of blessings and happiness to the one who observes the fast.

The day which is celebrated as Guru Purnima has great significance in Hindu and Buddhist culture. On this day, people seek the blessings of their Guru and seek his teachings.

Gopad fast worship

Gopad Vrat is celebrated on Ashadha Purnima. Lord Vishnu is worshiped on this day. The devotee should take bath early in the morning and then worship Lord Vishnu throughout the day.

He should recite the various names of Lord Vishnu. Incense, lamp, scent, flowers etc. should be used in worship. Food, clothes, jewelery etc. should be donated to Brahmins after worship. Cows are also worshiped while observing this fast. The devotee should take the blessings of the cow after applying tilak on it.

If they observe the fast with full devotion, then they get freedom from all their sins. It pleases Lord Vishnu and he fulfills all the wishes of the devotee. By observing this fast, the devotee gets all kinds of happiness and attains Vishnu Lok.

Ashadha Purnima Vrat Vidhi

According to Hindu texts, there are special rituals to observe the Ashadha Purnima Gopadam Vrat. Here are the rituals that must be performed. Wake up early in the morning & take bath.

Worship or recite the name of Lord Vishnu throughout the day. One can also read or listen to Satyanarayan Katha for great benefits. During meditation, think of the image of the quadrilateral Vishnu sitting with his consort, Goddess Lakshmi, on the Garuda Vihaan. Earthen lamps or diyas, essence, flowers and incense should be offered to Lord Vishnu.

After offering prayers to Lord Vishnu, devotees should feed Brahmins or needy people. One should also do charitable work as per one’s convenience. Devotees should wear yellow clothes and distribute grains and sweets as donations. It is said that worshiping Goddess Lakshmi under a Peepal tree on the morning of Ashadha Purnima can bring wealth and prosperity in life. One who observes Gopad Vrat should worship cows and feed them. They should apply tilak for blessings.

Significance of Ashadha Purnima Vrat

It is believed that if you keep the Gopad Vrat with complete dedication and follow all the rituals properly then you can get the blessings of Lord Vishnu and get all the worldly pleasures. Also, observing the Gopadam Vrat fulfills all the wishes of the devotees and blesses them with salvation at the end of life.
