The fast of Skanda Shashthi is dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, son of Shiva-Parvati.  According to the scriptures, the celebration of Skanda Shashthi is celebrated for six days.

In North India, the son of Shiva-Parvati known as Kartikeya, whereas in South India he is named Murugan. Karthikeya is specifically worshiped in the southern provinces of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and so on. It's also known as Skanda Shashthi Puja.

Skanda Shashthi is celebrated as the enjoyment of the birth of Murugan and the destruction of Asuras. By worshiping Skanda Shashthi, he defeats the sufferings of the devotees and gives them goodwill. All of the devotees gather in massive numbers in this six-day festival.

Processions are also taken out at many places. As well as, special pujas are arranged infamous temples of South India such as the temple of Lord Subramaniam, Thirupparamkunram Temple, built-in Udupi, and Palani Hills. Significance of Masik Skanda Sashti

The fifth day of Navratri is worshiped by Skandamata, the mother of Karthikeya, the commander of the gods. Therefore, Skandmata can also be pleased by worshiping Skanda Dev and proves all the wishes of the fast.

On today special worship is performed in South India, in which Lord Kartikeya is invoked. Skanda Shashthi is especially celebrated in the month of Kartik. It's believed that Kartikeya was born on this day.

  • On today, get up at Brahma Bella and clean the house. After this, take a bath and meditate and take the first vow. 
  • Now set up the idol of Lord Kartikeya together with Maa Gauri and Shiva within the worship hall at the worship post. 
  • After this, worship God Mahadev, Goddess Parvati and Kartikeya of Gods with water, seasonal fruits, flowers, nuts, Kalava, Deepak, Akshat, turmeric, sandalwood, milk, cow's ghee, fragrance and so on. Lastly, perform Aarti. 
  • If you want, you may also worship today. Perform Kirtan-Bhajan and Aarti within the evening. After this, do fruitful.

The tyranny of the demon Tarakasura was spread all over the place because of which all of the gods were facing defeat. Someday all of the gods came together to Brahma Dev and prayed to him for his safety. Brahma Dev informed him that Tarakasura could be killed by none other than the son of Lord Shiva but after the end of Mother Sati, Shiva became absorbed in religious practice.

All of the gods took a request to Lord Shiva and Shivji listened to him and married Parvati. After getting married within the auspicious time, Kartikeya was born and he killed Tadakasura.

On today, along with Karthikeya, worshiping Lord Shiva and mother Parvati also has special significance. On today, you get special benefits by doing charity work. Unbroken lamps are lit by the installation of Skanda Dev. Kartik is worshiped by bathing the Lord, wearing new clothes.

Today is offered to God. In Skanda Shashthi Puja, vengeful food should be discarded of meat, alcohol, onion, garlic, and celibacy is important. It's mentioned that by mixing vermilion in yogurt on Lord Kartikeya on this day, the business troubles of the business end and the financial condition is nice. Worshiping Lord Kartikeya with full heart on today removes many types of sufferings in life.
